Maybe I should have made the title of this post “Utah Police Out of Control.” Today I will interview Martin King to talk about his recent experience with police harassment.
When I was growing up I saw many futuristic movies that depicted police or authorities abusing their power. At the time I did not get why. We can see this in more recent films like V for Vendetta.
The problem is when you have a government that no longer answers to the people, there is no consequence for their auctions. As Lord Acton said “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” In Utah we have developed a police force where officers can beat people with night sticks, rough up an old lady who won’t accept a ticket for watering her lawn, or shamelessly pull anyone over for anything to try to make up their revenue shortfall.
Come on people. You can see it happening. Have you ever seen so many people being pulled over? I was pulled over in Ogden by a cop who claimed he ran my license plate number and the system didn’t show I had car insurance. I did have car insurance of course. Do they run the plates of everyone they pass on the road now? The cop was shining his light all over in my car to see if he could find some reason to search it. He handed me back my ID, proof of insurance card, and then pulled out pulling over someone else before I could even pull away from the curb.
