Don’t Trust the US Mainstream News

I need to make some updates.  There were a few points I covered in the show that were different from my below post.  On the show I covered a Guantanamo Detainee who’s genitals were sliced with a scalpel as part of the torture process.  Notice this was not covered by the US media:

Gitmo Detainee’s ‘Genitals Were Sliced With A Scalpel,’ Waterboarding ‘Far Down The List Of Things They Did’

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/02/09/mohamed-torture-uk-us

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/defence/4551441/UK-government-suppressed-evidence-on-Binyam-Mohamed-torture-because-MI6-helped-his-interrogators.html

I’m leaving the above links exposed so you can see just by looking at them this report came out of the UK and not the US.

I also pointed out how Barack Obama plans to handle the case.  He’s maintaining Bush’s State Secrets policy to block the case from going forward.  Obama’s plan to maintain Bush’s State Secrets policy was reported by a US columnist by the name of Glenn Greenwald who rights for Salon Magazine.  Mr. Greenwald is a Constitutional Lawyer and non partisan individual.  Despite the fact he appears to be a Democrat, he has defended Ron Paul against attacks by liberals on several occasions.

Obama fails his first test on civil liberties and accountability — resoundingly and disgracefully

We should never as a society accept someone’s genitals being sliced by a razor. If someone really is a dangerous criminal, lock him up for life. If he really has information that can save lives, why not try sodium pentathlon? We should never lower ourselves to this disgraceful level, or we are no better than Nazis. What kind of a human being can slice someone else’s genitals with a scalpel?

A caller who has traveled abroad also wanted to recommend http://www.cctv-9.com He described their news coverage as excellent.

Original Post: 02/14/2009

I would like to bring to everyone’s attention an article by Paul Craig Roberts, which I will read in this radio broadcast.  This article was originally brought to my attention by Rob Alexander and Brodie Mower from the Salt Lake Chapter of the Campaign for Liberty.

Before I get started though, I would like to bring everyone’s attention to my last post on Provo Police beating a man name of Chris Lauridsen with nightsticks.  This is an important issue, and I have posted some pretty important data in that post on how people vote in General Elections.

Chris Lauridsen’s story actually relates into this Paul Craig Roberts’ article because if we had more locally owned media, outrageous events such as this would surely get more news coverage.

I would like to thank Rob Alexander and Brodie Mower from the Salt Lake Campaign for liberty for bringing this article to my attention.

First let me give you a background on Paul Craig Roberts if you haven’t already heard of him.  The article I am about to read to you can be found here.

http://baltimorechronicle.com/2009/010909Roberts2.shtml

Paul Craig Roberts is an economist who served as an Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration earning fame as the “Father of Reaganomics”. He is a former editor and columnist for the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and Scripps Howard News Service. He is the author of Supply-Side Revolution: An Insider’s Account of Policymaking in Washington; Alienation and the Soviet Economy: The Collapse of the Socialist Era and Meltdown: Inside the Soviet Economy, and is the co-author with Lawrence M. Stratton of The Tyranny of Good Intentions: How Prosecutors and Law Enforcement Are Trampling the Constitution in the Name of Justice.

This article is published in the Baltimore Chronicle with permission of the author.

Paul Craig Roberts recommends going to news sources outside the US.  The sites outside the US Mr. Roberts recommends are:

RussiaToday.com

PressTV.ir from Iran

Aljazeera.net

Haaretz.com from Israel

I can tell you first hand there are some very disturbing articles published on Israel’s Haaretz.com that we never hear about in the US. I won’t read the articles over the air because they are too disturbing, but I will post the links below:

I saw fit to remove her from the world

By Aviv Lavie and Moshe Gorali

Continuation of ‘I saw fit to remove her from the world’

This story was also covered by the Guardian based out of the UK, but not in the US.

Jewish UK MP Sr. Gerald Kaufman who’s parents were Holocaust survivors actually claims the original Zionists were terrorists. Could he be right?  Mind you Zionism is a political movement, not the Jewish faith.  You can be an Atheist like Bill Maher and be a Zionist.

My greatest fear is the US government will see all this free speech on the internet and take steps to block it.  Indeed they are trying.  In 2007 Democrat Jane Harmon introduced HR 1955, which was introduced in the Senate as S. 1959: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007.  You can read the full text of the bill on the Govtrack.us site which I have linked to above.

This bill was going to be an amendment to the Military Commissions Act, and establish an internet oversight branch within the Department of Homeland Security.  Luckily the bill didn’t pass.  The only cosponsor was Normal Coleman from Minnesota.  I know many people don’t like Al Franken, but personally, I am happy to be rid of Norm Coleman.

Mind you I never heard one major media outlet, including NPR, report on this issue.  The outrage that  prevented this bill from going forward was purely internet driven.

Cisco with all their integrity ***sarcasm*** sold China Cisco routers capable of blocking and filtering any internet traffic they don’t want the Chinese people to see.  Don’t think that can’t happen here.

Remember what Benjamin Franklin said?

The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.

Notice the point Paul Craig Roberts made about media consolidation.  Lou Dobbs makes this same point in his book War On The Middle Class.  I would encourage everyone to read this book.  I also bought extra copies and gave one to Jason Chaffets, and one to Stephen Sandstrom.

Almost every media outlet in the United Sates is owned by one of 10 companies.  Many of them have co-ownership in each others media outlets.  Here’s a chart that lists who owns what: The Big Ten.  Note MSNBC is owned by General Electric and Microsoft two of the largest corporations in the world.  The have a vested interest in what news you do and don’t year.

I remember Keith Olbermann (who claimed Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac are not publicly funded), was reporting on Ron Paul supporters who were protesting Sean Hannity for slandering Ron Paul.  Olbermann said the Name Ron Paul twice and then through out the rest of his news program, he referred to the Ron Paul supporters as “angry Republicans.”  It was like someone told him you’re not supposed to let people know about Ron Paul.  They most have shown the clip of the protesters 10 times.

That’s why it is so critically important to have a station like K-Talk that is locally owned.  The FCC did a study that found local ownership makes a big difference.  Fair.org reported on a local ownership study by the FCC that found locally owned stations deliver nearly six (6) minutes more of total news and almost five-and-a-half (5 1/2) more minutes of local news in a 30-minute newscast.  The FCC tried to destroy all evidence the report ever existed.

One of the Fourteen Points of Fascism defined by Milton Mayer is controlled Mass Media.

Perhaps the answer is to get rid of the FCC and let states regulate their own airwaves.

When it comes to getting real political news, I am a big fan of C-Span where you can watch what the unedited activities of  Congress.  Comcast used to have C-Span 1 and C-Span two on lower channels where people could find the broadcasts.  I believe it was on channels 19 and 20.  They bumped C-Span to channel 78, put a Spanish station on 20, and left 19 static for sometime.

I have noticed something very important from watching C-Span.  Congress relies on the New York Times and the Washington Post for much of their information.  They bring up these publications in hearings, and when delivering speeches.

Perhaps it is up to us to provide Congress with alternative News Sources Paul Robert Craig has recommended.

I know there are a lot of Alex Jones fans out there, but I believe Joel Skousen is correct when he says Alex Jones gets Fed a lot of misinformation and does not filter it out.  It’s good to double check many of his claims.  Paul Robert Craig does make appearances on the Alex Jones show at times as well as many other credible people.  All I’m saying is people need to look at the source of the information and do some cross checking.

I have listed the international web sites recomended by P.C. Roberts above.  You can also get an interesting news selection by going to news feeds I have added to this web site.  http://ut.alternativeconservative.com/news-feeds

One feed is from stories dugg primarily by Ron Paul supporters on Digg.com.  The other news feeds are Politics from Reddit, and World News from Reddit.  People anywhere in the world can submit news stories to these news feeds.

I apologize to everyone, it took me a couple of days to add this page.

On Saturday I filled in for Linda Strasburg.  My guests were Lowell Nelson and David Garber from Utahns for Liberty of Utah County.  I first met Lowell and David in September of 2007 when I joined a Ron Paul meetup group started by David.

On the show David gives us a background on how he started the meetup group, and became involved in the Ron Paul movement — now known as Campaign for Liberty.

Lowell, who is an excellent person to work with, gave us a summary of how the political system works and how each and everyone of us can get involved to make a difference.

We also stressed people from different political backgrounds and affiliations have all come together to support the Campaign for Liberty to defend the Constitution.

Cathy from Herriman called in and brought up Tom Drashyl who had appeared as a guest on the Gayle Ruzika  show.  This set me off on a tangent over my concerns over Barack Obama “Birth Certificate Issue.”

I stated in my opinion, it’s a red herring.  What I mean by that is people’s attention to is being diverted to an issue that probably isn’t even a real issue.  You can go to FactCheck.org to see high resolution closeup pictures of Barack Obama’s Birth certificate.

I believe the “Birth Certificate Issue” obscures really damming issues related to Barack Obama.   The political pundits tell people “Obama is moving to the center” when actually he is just showing he is corrupted and corruptible.  Sadly people let political pundits think for them.  They frame people’s perspective, and the majority go along with it.

I should stress these following points about Barack Obama are really important reasons why we need to clean out Congress.  Obama is not going to restore the Constitution, and neither is Orrin Hatch or Robert Bennett.  They helped trash it with the Patriot Act in the first place.

First Obama did not run on a platform of restoring the Constitution by repealing The Patriot Act.  Barack Obama voted for the Reauthorization of the Patriot Act.

Barack Obama voted for the Foreign Inteligence Servailence Act (FISA) after he promised everyone he would vote against the bill.

The New York Times reported on February 3rd 2008: Nuclear Leaks and Response Tested Obama in Senate.

When I went back and look at this article, I believe it’s even worse than what I reported on the air:

Mr. Obama scolded Exelon and federal regulators for inaction and introduced a bill to require all plant owners to notify state and local authorities immediately of even small leaks. He has boasted of it on the campaign trail, telling a crowd in Iowa in December that it was “the only nuclear legislation that I’ve passed.”

“I just did that last year,” he said, to murmurs of approval.

A close look at the path his legislation took tells a very different story. While he initially fought to advance his bill, even holding up a presidential nomination to try to force a hearing on it, Mr. Obama eventually rewrote it to reflect changes sought by Senate Republicans, Exelon and nuclear regulators. The new bill removed language mandating prompt reporting and simply offered guidance to regulators, whom it charged with addressing the issue of unreported leaks.

Those revisions propelled the bill through a crucial committee. But, contrary to Mr. Obama’s comments in Iowa, it ultimately died amid parliamentary wrangling in the full Senate.

“Senator Obama’s staff was sending us copies of the bill to review, and we could see it weakening with each successive draft,” said Joe Cosgrove, a park district director in Will County, Ill., where low-level radioactive runoff had turned up in groundwater. “The teeth were just taken out of it.”

The history of the bill shows Mr. Obama navigating a home-state controversy that pitted two important constituencies against each other and tested his skills as a legislative infighter. On one side were neighbors of several nuclear plants upset that low-level radioactive leaks had gone unreported for years; on the other was Exelon, the country’s largest nuclear plant operator and one of Mr. Obama’s largest sources of campaign money.

Since 2003, executives and employees of Exelon, which is based in Illinois, have contributed at least $227,000 to Mr. Obama’s campaigns for the United States Senate and for president. Two top Exelon officials, Frank M. Clark, executive vice president, and John W. Rogers Jr., a director, are among his largest fund-raisers.

The history of the bill shows Mr. Obama navigating a home-state controversy that pitted two important constituencies against each other and tested his skills as a legislative infighter. Barack Obama voted for the Wall Street Bailouts just as Robert Bennett and Orrin Hatch did.

It’s not hard to see why Obama supported the Bailouts either.  According to Opensecrets.org, who collects publicly available FEC information and analyzes it, here are Barack Obama’s top ten (10) contributors:

University of California $1,074,898

This is of great concern to me because I believe people have to much trust in Obama.  They are letting their guard down, and that’s dangerous.

Mohammad I almost forgot.  This one is just for you, for all the times you have called in saying what a great guy Obama is.  I would like to ask you watch and listen to Obama’s speech to AIPAC (American Israeli Political Action Committee).

This is an excellent article from John Pilger everyone should read Beware of Obama’s Groundhog Day.

Charles called in after I ran through this list, and stated there was probably a minimum leak threshold with the Obama letting companies off the hook for nuclear leaks.  I confess that is probably true, but the New York Times article does not give the exact mounts.  Charles stated he has been concerned about the push for a one world government for years.

If anyone thinks Charles is up in the night, watch this video.

[update added 1/7/2009] I forgot to add Obama lied to Iowa voters, or the Canadian Ambassador Michael Wilson over NFTA.  Take your pick.

This gets us back to why it’s so important for people to stay politically active, and become politically active.

The Utahns for Liberty of Utah County meetup group does not charge any sort of membership fees.  All that is required is for you to go to the web sight and sign up.  It’s very helpful if you attend a meeting when one is scheduled.  Utahns for Liberty of Utah County works with many other groups in Utah when the issue is liberty related.  This group is a great way to stay in touch with whats going on, and network within all of the other state groups.

Rhonda Lee called in to state she believes the system is rigged so there’s no point in getting involved.  Lowell makes the point that is rare.  Usually the reason we fail is because citizens fail to get involved.

Lowell and I could not agree more on this points.  Conspiracy should not be used as a scape goat.  We can’t use conspiracy as an excuse to do nothing.

There’s a lesson I learned from a video called Where There’s a Will There’s an A+:

If you fail to try, you are guaranteed to lose.  Real failure is failing to take action.  Even if you try at to do something and don’t succeed, you should at least be proud of yourself for giving it your best shot.

When I joined this meetup group, I learned how the caucus system worked, and I have been able to pass this information on to others like Mark Maxon.  I never would have been able to become well informed on the issue if it wasn’t for David Garber, Lowell Nelson, and Mike Ridgway who provided additional information like this UEA training site Caucus101.

Utahns for Liberty of Utah County will be participating in an End The Fed rally planning meeting on 1/8/2009, as well as many other events.  Please check the calendar and join us.

http://www.meetup.com/CFL-Provo/calendar

There will also be more caucus training sessions as we get closer caucus season.
