Universal Problems with Education

Based on this video, it appears the United Kingdom has the very same problems with their education we have in the United States.

People who fallowed the voucher bill in Utah may find this video uncanny. It hits so close to home, yet everyone has a British accent, otherwise you would think this comedy skit was based on the US Department of Education.

Before people decide whether or not the Department of Education needs to go, they need to look at the history of the Department of Education. How many people know the Department of Education was signed into law October 17, 1979 by my favorite President (sarcasm) Jimmy Carter.

Howard Stephenson on Education

The best of Howard Stephenson on education.  Senator Stephenson references John Taylor Gatto as an expert on why the US education system is failing.

Senator Stephenson also states the education system has been rigged by elitists organizations like the Carnagie Foundation who just gave an award to UVU for meeting the education needs of the community.

I’ve been very frustrated with UVU myself.  Being a working adult, I’ve had trouble finding night classes in my major.  When they became UVU they came up with programs like a Bachelors Degree in landscaping, and theater.

You don’t need a Bachelor Degree to run a landscaping business.  There’s already fierce competition from people who have worked in the field for years.

Theater is a fun degree, but the job prospects aren’t very good.  What about expanding the Nursing program which has a high demand in the job market and is hard to get into?

I apologize for the F’bombs in the following video.  It appears George Carlin is in agreement with Senator Howard Stephenson.  That should make Stephenson’s claims non partisan right?  Many liberals and conservatives appreciate insights provided by George Carlin.

[Update 5-17-2009] Two different version of the below video have been removed. The first from Youtube, the second from Google Video–there are many other video clips of George they don’t pull. I have just located a new source, and posted it below. The video I’m talking about is George Carlin’s “The Owners of America.”

[Updated 6-1-2009] Found longer bleeped out version.

According to Alternet.org the above clip is from George Carlin’s This Life is Worth Losing.
